The Charm of Charcoal…

Although we try to tame this land it will always move to it’s own momentum, it’s forever beating heart vibrating from it’s core, sometimes with gentle whispers of breath, sometimes not so gentle…

Dark, moody and rugged, yet still contained within this piece a hint of humanity. Charcoal is applied over the top of washed charcoal, erased back and re-applied. 14 x 6 ” (approx).

I have always loved charcoal and finding a good support has been crucial in my ability to render tonal studies. Although still experimenting with papers Fabriano Artistico 300gsm hot pressed paper is proving satisfying.

I think it’s time to get on the bike, my little sketchbook calls…
