Some great results from yesterday’s (19th February 2023) art workshop using charcoal and soft pastel. This is a meditative process and one that I revisit often to relax and challenge the imagination, any topic and shape can combine to form a surprising circular composition.

Working in a round format is not new, the ‘tondo’ meaning ’round’ has its roots in 15th-century Renaissance Italy and has been adopted by many artists since this time. The link below is an interesting article on the tondo that describes it’s beginnings and current use. https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-artists-turning-tondo-paintings

Another form of circular art is the mandala, meaning circle. A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from outside to the inner core, through layers. A full description can be found on the link below. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandala

Wherever you are on your creative journey, even if you are just beginning, you can adopt this way of working to relax, to inspire, to experiment with media, to play and have fun.

Thank you to the wonderful group of creatives that made this day so very enjoyable!π
Inspiring. Starting with a circle is a great way to think outside the box!
Thanks Laura yes agree!
